![]() ![]() Defiance was something else, since it went the hack'n slash route on the combat and lighter on the puzzle part.Maybe it could use a bit more of work on the world design, since it feels like a bunch of different puzzles pasted together, but I believe it makes a good work in combining both combat and puzzles on each stage. If you look behind the obvious contradictions with the previous games (and that apparently the team that worked on it was only told they were making a "vampires game") it's actually quite enjoyable from both gameplay and lore viewpoints. I probably should give it a try one of these days to see if I can beat it more comfortaly. My first and only playthrough was rather messy, since I ran out of magic and was pretty dumb to use resources accordingly (it didn't help that I tried to use the reaver every time as soon as I got it). It had a more rogue-like gameplay than the latest entries, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Having the Wraith Blade both continuously draining Raziel's life and almost 1 shooting anything was an interesting mechanic, that also relied more on managing resources than on technical skill. Soul Reaver 2 was simply lineal, but it was cool how they used the time travel mechanics to make the world more interesting, even while reusing the same locations for each time jump. The combat is engaging enough, even when you realize most fights are more gimmicky than technically complex. Despite the dated textures and graphics it was beautifully crafted, and felt quite huge, despite it's actual size. After replaying those games I have to say I'm more impressed by Raziel's journey, as well by Kain's development over the story and how they turned him from antihero to villain and then to hero (arguably?) in the end. ![]() Meddling with the internet, I was able experience SR1, BO2 and even BO1, and currently was able to get the whole series (minus BO1 for obvious reasons) on Steam and GOG. I really didn't understand much of what was happening (it didn't help that back in the day I literally understood less than 30% of anything spoken in english), but for some reason the character of Raziel grew on me. ![]() A friend lent it to me, telling me it was about a vampire who got his wings torn and killed, but eventually revived. ![]()
